Dermal Fillers

As we age we lose bone mass, fat, muscle strength, collagen and elastin. These form the ‘scaffolding’ and volume in our face. A temporary hyaluronic acid gel can be used to restore and rejuvenate these areas. It can also be used to accentuate your natural beauty.

Treatments

There are natural proportions in the anatomy of the face which differ depending on gender and race. Our dermal filler treatments will are aimed at maintaining or restoring these natural proportions and vectors to give a natural and ‘untreated’ appearance. The choice of filler depends on the area being treated to give appropriate longevity and support but also natural movement with facial expression where needed in areas such as the cheeks and lips. The appropriate placement at the correct depth of the correct amount and type of filler will result in a natural appearance that moves with your smile.

Common areas that may be treated include

  • Cheeks and mid face area
  • Jaw and chin area of the lower face
  • Temples
  • Lips
  • Tear Trough and periorbital area (around and under the eye)
  • Nose (Non surgical rhinoplasty)

Dermal Fillers FAQ

Are dermal filler injections painful?

They can be a little uncomfortable at the outset however the products contain local anaesthetics so the discomfort is very minimal and short lived.

How much filler will I need?

This depends on many factors including age, the amount of volume loss and skin elasticity but also your desired result. In general the older you are, the more filler you may need but we can discuss this at your consultation.

How long does it last?

Dermal filler can last anything between 9-18 months depending on the filler and the area treated. Generally speaking it is recommended that a top-up once a year maintains the results.

What is the downtime?

There can be some mild swelling and discomfort however this is usually not noticed by other people, particularly if treatment is to areas such as the temples, cheeks, jaw or chin. Lip filler treatment can have slightly more swelling that can last for around a week and feel firmer for around 4 weeks until the product fully integrates with your own natural tissue.

Are dermal filler treatments safe?

The safety of a treatment is determined largely by how it is performed, with infection control precautions, and careful injection technique with respect to and knowledge of the anatomy and position of main blood vessels. As with any injection there is a risk of bruising and infection. With all dermal filler injections there is a risk of vascular occlusion (blocked blood vessel). This will be discussed with you at your consultation and in the unlikely event that any problems do arise then we are fully trained and equipped to manage them with you.
